Domino’s $1 Million Free Pizza Giveaway Runs Out in 24 Hours After Customers Buy Rival Fast Food

Domino’s Pizza gave away $1 million worth of free pizzas in less than 24 hours after launching a promotion that required customers to buy food from rival chains first. The offer, which was scheduled to run from August 31 through September 30, was exhausted by the morning of September 1.

The promotion was tied to the launch of the Domino, a new Detroit-style pizza designed for one person and shaped like the company’s logo. The chain announced the giveaway on August 31, stating that customers could receive a free Domino by purchasing a qualifying item from McDonald’s, Burger King, Taco Bell, Chick-fil-A, or Chipotle, and uploading the receipt to the website IsTheDominoWorthy.com.

The website now displays the message: ‘Every Domino Has Been Claimed.’

How the Promotion Worked

The Domino is Domino’s first menu item created specifically for solo diners. It is a rectangular, Detroit-style pizza made with Parmesan-encrusted pan dough, two layers of cheese, the customer’s choice of sauce, and up to three toppings. Cut into two large pieces, it resembles the company’s familiar domino-shaped logo.

The offer was available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies lasted, with a total pool of $1 million worth of free pizzas. According to Domino’s, this amounted to 105,375 free Dominos.

Danielle Bulger, Domino’s public relations manager for external communications, confirmed the sellout in an email to PMQ Pizza. She said the offer created ‘tremendous excitement.’

‘The response was so overwhelming that all available free coupon codes were claimed within 24 hours,’ Bulger said. ‘If there was any question about the Domino’s status before, we think customers have delivered a pretty clear verdict: the Domino may just have earned its place in the fast-food hall of fame!’

Kate Trumbull, Domino’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer, said when the promotion launched that the Domino was ‘created for the way people eat today, where a meal doesn’t always mean sharing the same pizza.’

‘It solves a problem traditional pizza never could: everyone gets the toppings they love, without having to compromise,’ Trumbull said.

Comparison to Rival Fast Food Items

Domino’s deliberately benchmarked the new pizza against iconic fast-food products rather than pizzas from competitors like Blaze Pizza. The chain positioned the Domino alongside items such as the Big Mac, Whopper, Crunchwrap Supreme, Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich, and Chipotle Burrito.

The goal was to compete more effectively for solo lunch and dinner occasions, when those items have traditionally been the go-to choice.

Bargain-hunting sites like Jamie’s Daily Deals and Mile High on the Cheap pronounced the deal dead just one day after the promotion launched. Although the offer was scheduled to run as late as September 30, every free Domino had been claimed by the following morning.

Current Status

As of September 12, 2026, the ‘Is the Domino Worthy?’ promotion has ended due to all coupon codes being claimed. The Domino pizza remains available for purchase at Domino’s locations nationwide. Domino’s has not announced plans to extend the giveaway or offer additional free pizza promotions tied to the Domino.
